Meet the Staff:
Like many of you, Tina Holtzleicer started dancing when she was a little girl. Tina grew up in a small Minnesota town, where an affordable dance company was not provided until she was in the fourth grade. From that moment on she has not stopped dancing. Her dance career provided her with many wonderful opportunities and accomplishments, such as being a member of an All Star Drill Team, a Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader, a member of the St. Paul Slam Performance Team, a Danceline Coach and a Dance Teacher. In addition to being a member and Co-captain of a MN State High School Danceline Champion Team!
While working for another dance company, Tina became dissatisfied with the instructional approach. She wanted to have the opportunity to give children the sense of gratification and happiness that dance had given her, and in a way that only she could provide.
In October 1997, Tina's dream came true, when U Can Danz! Dance Company
was created. Tina has an increadible way with children-she is able to connect with them at almost every level. Her love for dance and the children instantly shows through. With Tina's sense of humor and flamboyant, outgoing personality, dance classes are never a bore. Dancers are continously praised with words of encouragement and special awards, in turn creating a dancer with a great deal of self-esteem.
Tina has three young daughters, Paighton, Avery and Kynzley.
Lauren first started dance when she was in kindergarten, however the studio she was at required that every dancer must sell candy bars in order to pay for their uniforms, needless to say that was also her last day of dance, for the time being.
At the age of 8, after trying ever other sport, she decided to head back to the dance world; this time with a new studio, Short Dance Studios. This worked well for Lauren as she received 10 years of dance from this studio. She was trained in tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet, competition line, and a little bit of hip hop.
She was also a 4 year member of her High School Dance Team and served as the Captain her Senior Year. From there she went onto attend college at Iowa State University, where she didn't dance herself persay, but stayed active with dance by teaching for the City of Ames Park and Recreation department.
Lauren has been with U Can Danz! Dance Company since our 2008-2009 dance season, and is Co-Director.
Lauren and her husband, Matt have a super adorable one-year old son.
& dance instructor
Emily is so EXCITED about starting her third year teaching what she
loves at U Can Danz! Dance Company.
Emily is from Norwalk, Iowa where she started twirling baton at the young age of 4, competing when she was 5 and just completed her last
Baton Nationals this past summer. Emily’s dance passion evolved from there where she took jazz, tap, ballet, and tumbling at her local studio.
She was able to perform with her studio at many basketball games,
Holiday Shows & other venues.
Emily not only competed in baton, winning State, Regional & National titles, but also competed in dance, winning Highest Awards in team, duet & solo. In 2007 Emily placed 1st Runner Up in State Individual at Iowa State Dance & Drill Team. She was also Captain of her High School Dance/Drill Team which won top awards in State Competition in jazz, pom, & hip hop. In 2006 Emily competed & won the Miss Capital City Outstanding Teen competition. In 2007, she graduated high school in three years to pursue her dream of twirling at a major university. Emily was the Feature Twirler for the Iowa State University Cyclone Football ‘Varsity’ Marching Band for five seasons, graduating this past summer. While attending ISU, Emily was a Company Member of Orchesis 1 Modern Dance Company, being very active in the organization serving as Public Relations as well as Secretary.
In December 2009, Emily had to overcome a tremendous physical obstacle by having to have major hip surgery. At this time it would have been easier for her to give up rather than to have to push herself & her body to do what she loved to do most, twirling & dance. Emily’s drive & determination didn’t let it get her down. Emily pushed herself so that in the Spring of 2010 she was back dancing and twirling again.
Emily is thrilled to be a part of the UCD family!!
